Set Your Long-term Goals in 30 Minutes (or Less!)

There are a bunch of great goal planning tools out there. Here’s one we like and use, internally as well as with our clients. We reference it as the BWR or the brainstorm, write and review tool. Try it!:

  1. Give yourself six minutes (at most!) to brainstorm a list of anything you’d like to achieve, create, do, have or experience in the next 20 years. Write down as many things as fast as you can.

  2. Go back through your list and write one, three, five, 10 or 20 years next to each goal to indicate how long it will take to achieve them. Be realistic! You have a 90 seconds to get this done, so be quick and go with your gut.

  3. Review your list. Choose your top four one-year goals. These are goals that make you really excited! Write about 150 words for each of those goals explaining why you will absolutely achieve it within the next 12 months. This should take you about 15-20 minutes total.

Stick this list somewhere you can see it to remind yourself of the greatness you are on track to achieve!
